Job description

BioTalent is pleased to be working with an exciting early-stage biotechnology startup who aim to build a platform to optimise microbiomes for crop growth. Their pilot product is already being used by leading soilless agriculture growers across Europe. As a Microbiology Scientist (title dependent on seniority level), you will lead wet-lab microbiology work and supporting their pipeline development. Joining as a core member of this small biotechnology company, you will get the opportunity to develop as their product progresses and ideally build out and run the microbiology team.

In this role, you will:
  • Isolate, culture and characterise novel microbes from a variety of environmental and plant contexts.
  • Lead their unique soilless agriculture culture portfolio.
  • Collaborate with the AI and bioinformatics scientists to support the design of isolation experiments and conditions that target key microbes isolation.
  • Identify and conduct in vitro testing of microbes for soilless agriculture and support in vivo testing on plants.
  • Contribute to a passionate, high-performance, and supportive work environment.

You will have:
  • PhD or industry equivalent within a relevant microbiology field.
  • Experience isolating and characterising microbes.
  • Some experience with microbial co-cultures.
  • Experience with scaling up microbial cultures or microbial product formulation is desirable.
  • Bioinformatics and/or sequencing experience is desirable.
